Learn how to thrive in the newborn period by learning the art of supported sleep for both yourself and your new baby.

Module 1: Introduction

Welcome! Thank you so much for trusting me with your growing family's sleep. I'm honored that you have chosen Supported Sleep for guidance on your parenting journey! In this module, you'll learn a little about me, why you should feel confident in the information provided here, and my goals for you in taking this course.

Module 1: Introduction

Module 2: Cultural Context (Parenting Without the Village)

In this module, I discuss the influence of our modern world on parenting and the mismatch between modern society and our evolutionary origins. This piece is critical to understanding the roadblocks many parents encounter with marrying the demands of our adult lives and the expectations our babies have of us. We'll also discuss the importance of attachment and how we can get creative to prioritize secure attachment with our babies in a culture that deprioritizes it.

Module 3: Normal Newborn Behavior & Newborn Care

What is normal for a newborn baby? We'll dig into normal newborn behavior, including sleep cues, the importance of nighttime nurture, and how to support your baby to sleep. I'll also cover what to do if your baby is hard to settle, and how you can get help for concerns with colic/fussiness.

Module 4: Apps, Gadgets, & Stuff (What do you actually need?)

Expecting and new parents are bombarded with targeted advertising about countless products they need for sleep, but are rarely informed about the risks or drawbacks of various sleep gadgets or devices. In this module, we review pros and cons of twelve of the most popular sleep "tools", and I share the best but little-known gadget for supporting sleep that is a secret to most parents.

Module 5: Where Should My Baby Sleep?

In this module, I'll cover both traditional and nontraditional options for where your baby can sleep! We'll discuss safe sleep, and the importance of having multiple sleep options that work for your family.

I also cover topics that parents frequently ask about, including swaddling, pacifiers, smart bassinets, cosleeping, baby swings, and more. :)

Module 5: Sleep Spaces
It is easier to change where your child sleeps than it is to change their biology.
Cosleeping is the biological norm

Module 6: Safe Bedsharing

Safe bedsharing gets its own module because I fervently believe that EVERY family deserves comprehensive education on how to bedshare safely AND because I want every family to prepare their bed for baby, regardless of whether they plan to bedshare or not.

70% of families end up falling asleep with baby in bed at some point in baby's first year of life. Whether you plan to or not, it is in your best interest to learn how to prepare your bed for safety - just in case!

You may also be one of the many families that finds safe bedsharing actually works really well for you, and decide to do it consistently. Either way, let's explore how to do it safely!
